“Culture Unmuted” follows Roxanne, a young go-go artist preparing for D.C.’s annual block party. Tensions rise between Roxanne and her new neighbors as they clash with the culture and future of their neighborhood. This play explores issues of gentrification, social justice, African Diaspora cultural traditions, and what was once Chocolate City.

Spend your morning with the team from Callaloo Kids for an introduction to diverse cultural narratives through the use of puppetry designed for young audiences.

Synopsis: Imagine is a world-premiere play written by Marjuan Canady with music by Amy K. Bormet. This is a delightful and enchanting story that takes audiences on a whimsical journey through the power of a child’s imagination. The story follows the adventures of Savi, a spirited young girl with a boundless imagination, as she explores all the fantastic people, places, and things in her bedroom. Told through music and dance, Savi travels to far away lands while making new friends that teach her valuable lessons, all through the power of imagination.
When: Saturday, June 8th, 9:30am and 11am.
Where: Helen Hayes Gallery, second floor of The National Theatre, 1321 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20004.
Cost: FREE! Donations welcome.
Run Time: Approximately 45 minutes.
Age Range: Best for ages 3-6, but everyone is invited!
Accessibility: This performance will be ASL-interpreted. The space is wheelchair accessible.

Since its founding in 2015, Canady Foundation for the Arts has served over 8,000 youth and families through its programming, community partnerships, and national performances.
